OTHfans.com has the exclusive news... that One Tree Hill will continue on for a 7th season. But will the entire cast be returning? No says a very close source to the show. Chad Michael Murray will not return for the new season. The source says Chad decided not to renew his contract because he is ready to move on to more roles in movies.

How will this affect the show? It will be an interesting One Tree Hill without it's main cast member.

we think we'd stop watching it if more cast members decided to leave..but we'd give it a couple of episodes chance to build up a story without them..

i'd care. lucas is too big a character to not have around. it wouldn't be the same (i might be alone on that one).

also, i find it really sketchy that only a fansite has this information from an unnamed source.

OTH without Lucas seems a bit ridiculous, considering it began as a show centered around him. I think it's time to just pull the plug. The show has run its course and dragging it out longer (especially if it's going to start bleeding cast members) isn't doing it any favors, in my personal opinion.

UPDATE:

I wanted to post that we are getting e-mails from the producers of OTH denying what is reported here. They state that "... No decisions have been made and negotiations with the actors, including Chad, have just begun. The network has not ordered a seventh season and the studio is in early negotiation stages with the actors just in case the network decides to bring us back, in other words, NOTHING has been determined yet." With that stated, I can only go by what sources say since I am not part of the negotiation process. I do not work for the show and I do not work for the Network. Therefore I do not know FIRST HAND what is going on. The original source is VERY VERY close to the show, but is not a producer or a Network employee. I can not release who the source is, however, I have complete 100% trust in what they are reporting. And I feel that the producers are simply doing damage control. Think what you want for now, but in time, we will find out from the OFFICIAL sources, and I am willing to bet it will confirm the original report that Chad will not be returning if they decide to do a 7th season.

I wouldnt be sad if Chad left. To me these past episodes and season has been around him. he bores me to no end. I love everyone else. I love how Sophia always gives him this evil look. I still feel bad for her. I think its time for the show to focus more on the other people on there. Him leaving, could be a way for danneel to come back.

I dont see Sophia leaving, i mean shes multi tasking with movies and the show. the show is a big part of who she is.

well, soem do think that way...others think that it might give the show a new creative turn and add some new stuff and zeste to teh show

TV networks don't erally care for "what ifs" though LOL..they care for "did it do good in its latest season..and does it have the potention to do that again, or to do better"

if the money's there..and the answer to those questions is yes..then the chances are you'll get a new season

Shannen Doherty left Charmed in season 3 and the show ran 5 more seasons. Now, by season 5 it started to turn a little lame, and season 8 was virtually unwatchable, but it wasn't because Shannen left, the writing just sucked.

I think OTH, despite 'staring off' focused on Lucas, it really is an 'ensemble' cast, and as such, characters can come and go, and it can still be good, provided the characters that are there draw viewers and the writing stays good (look at ER). Lucas is one of my least favorite characters on OTH, so if he goes, I'll still give it a shot. Now, if Brooke left, I might not hang in so long. Brooke is my favorite character on the show now.

Now, not everyone agrees, but like X-Files, which was much more driven by two core characters than OTH. I actually still enjoyed even after Mulder left. I was actually a big Doggett fan. He was awesome. *L* So I'm willing to see what happens. If Lucas doesn't return, but OTH continues on, I'll check it out and see how it goes anyway. OTH has faltered a little here and there, but generally, considering it's in season 6, it's less stale than the aforementioned Charmed was in season 6. So...

I was just appalled the year the WB decided to renew Charmed for another season, yet canceled Angel... what the hell!? Anyway *L*...

I still think that many kids who watch OTH [especially girls] watched it because Chad Michael Murray... And when he leaves they will lose fans/viewers however you want to call them. Of course a show can continue, it's not over because a actor leaves I know that- but it really depends because some shows just went downhill after main characters leave-
but I do agree with Velvy that when there are more characters to a show- the risk of it not being worth watching anymore sinks...
Imagine what would happen if Jared Padalecki or Jensen Ackles would decide to leave Supernatural [if- there is no news about it] but that would ruin the show- And OTH has what? Four main-characters??? When one leaves it doesn't HAVE TO ruin the show but it CAN!

As much as I'm not a Leyton fan, the show won't be the same without them.

I finally saw Hilarie's video, and wow, WTF. It seems like she doesn't want to go, but is likely being lumped in with Chad's exit? (I'm not spoiled, so I could be way off base there, lol.)
