Title: Gossip Girl
Paula - September 10, 2008 07:08 PM (GMT)
I recently (against my better judgment) got into this show. I watched all of season one on DVD in the span of like a week, just in time to start the new season.
Blair is my favorite by far, closely followed by Chuck, so their scenes together bring me much joy. I don't even care if they're on good terms or bad - Leighton and Ed just play really well off one another and need to be on my screen together more often.
Anyone else into this show?
twinzz-dorien - September 10, 2008 07:09 PM (GMT)
i'm affraid i'm not ...i was not imprssed by the acting in season 1 so reclined from watching again...
Paula - September 10, 2008 07:10 PM (GMT)
Did you watch the whole season?
twinzz-dorien - September 10, 2008 07:11 PM (GMT)
well..the first half..than I gave up
Paula - September 10, 2008 07:18 PM (GMT)
Ah, okay. I only asked because it took me a few episodes to get into it. I tried the first two or three back when they aired and gave up, and my friend insisted that I needed to stick with it a little longer to get hooked. Guess she was right - I started enjoying it much more a few episodes in. lol

the girls are ...kinda okay I guess...I just can't get over the suckyness of the guys LOL
Paula - September 10, 2008 09:47 PM (GMT)
Blake Lively actually kinda bugs me. She's not that great of an actress and I don't find her that pretty. (Sorry, harsh, I know. lol) I really enjoy Leighton Meester, though. As for the guys, I think Ed Westwick is fab, Penn Badgley is okay, and Chace Crawford is nice to look at but fairly useless in the acting department. lol
I kinda dig the kid who plays Serena's little brother Eric, too. I spent most of the first season trying to figure out if I was getting gay vibes from Eric or if it was just the kid who played him (or both?) until Georgina dropped that bomb on his family over dinner. haha
The Blair/Serena friendship reminds me a lot of Brooke/Peyton. Best friends who have done some pretty fucked up things to each other, but always seem to find their way back in the end.

i'm beginning to like the show...kinda. i've watched most of it since it started airing. but i read the books, which really screwed me up. I was resisting throwing my tv out the window for the first half of season one. i think i'm able to look at it just as a tv show now though, so hopefully i can enjoy it more this year.
velvetsky - September 11, 2008 05:41 AM (GMT)
I'm fairly hooked into Gossip Girl, I think I missed one ep in season 1. I read a number of the books before there were even mutterings of a show. (For a bit there was talk of a movie with I think Lindsey Lohan to play Blair. *L*) Glad they went for the show, there's definitely some divergences. I didn't care so much for ep 1 of season 1, I think because of the book and how it was kind of a slightly 'tweaked' version of book 1. But really enjoyed it after that once the show took on it's own story and own life, with just the same 'inspiration' of the books.
That said, I'm not sure I have a favorite character, there's things I like and don't like about all of them. They're all annoying in some ways, but likable in others. But all in all, I enjoy it. :)
Paula - September 11, 2008 06:00 PM (GMT)
I never read the books, so I don't have any comparisons going on in my head to distract/annoy me. I doubt I'll be going anywhere near the books anytime soon, so I guess I'm good. lol
So random, but did you guys know Leighton Meester was a blonde pre-GG?! I recently saw some pictures of it and it looks so wrong on her. She went brunette to play Blair and I have to say it was a major upgrade. She looks so much prettier with brown hair.
For those who haven't seen her blonde...

Sorry, Leighton, I do not approve. :P
Upgraaaaaaade...

And just to be random - here she is with Nanny Carrie! lol
velvetsky - September 11, 2008 11:03 PM (GMT)
Well, judging by her eyebrows, I'd say she looks like naturally she's probably at least in the light brown family. So the 'Blair' color is probably closer to 'natural'. Cause the blond definitely looks like a dye job too. Especially the first two pics of her. I like the brown much better too. *L*
Paula - September 12, 2008 06:06 AM (GMT)
I'm not sure, but from what I've heard it sounds like she's a natural blonde - the last picture of her with the darker shade of blonde hair is probably her natural color, as opposed to the more bleached look in the other two. I cannot get over how odd she looks with blonde hair. The brown is just so her. lol
Have I mentioned my love of Blair/Chuck scenes? They always have such amusing exchanges. My favorite from this week:
Blair: "Charles... sidebar."
Chuck: "Actually, we weren't finished."
Blair: "Notice how my voice didn't go up at the end? Not a question."
Blair always gets such awesomely bitchy lines.
Paula - September 22, 2008 09:41 PM (GMT)
So is anyone else keeping up with the current season of GG? Last week had some awesome Blair/Chuck scenes. I loved when Chuck went into Blair's room during the blackout and busted out his British accent ("Blow out your candle.") and Blair tried to pretend she thought he was Marcus when he walked in on them. "Marcus, wait, you don't understand! I thought he was you - he had an accent!" Sure, Blair. hahaha
And on the most random note ever, there's a girl who works at the Starbucks here who kinda looks like Vanessa. I just realized it today. Kind of amusing since on the show Vanessa also works in a coffee shop! lol
velvetsky - September 24, 2008 07:32 AM (GMT)
That's funny about the barista at your Starbucks looking like Vanessa. I've been keeping up, just watched last night's today... I'm not into Chuck period, though I also am not so invested in any character that I can't just watch and whatever. My mother finds Chuck really creepy, not just the character, but the whole way the actor looks.
Serena just turned superbitch, and I am hoping someone, Blair, Dan, someone hands her her ass on a platter soon. Serena is a horrible friend, and last season her whole 'excuse' for why she left town and never bothered to tell Blair even seemed weak to me. Blair's a bitch, but at least she's a reasonably decent friend to those she has some loyalties to.
Paula - September 30, 2008 05:06 PM (GMT)
Wow, last night's episode was crazy. I came away from it wanting to punch Serena and Eleanor (and maybe Dan), and wanting to give Blair and Chuck big hugs. I know they both do plenty of their own crap to other people, but they made me feel so sad for them last night. Especially Blair. Her own mother consistently chooses Serena over her - no wonder she's so insecure and competitive with her. That last scene between them was painful.
I freaking LOVED Blair's little tantrum to Dorota. I love any Blair/Dorota interaction, really. Dorota is more maternal with Blair than Eleanor can generally be bothered to be.
The Chuck/Dan scenes were interesting while they lasted, until Chuck discovered Dan was using him for his writing. Oops. Though Dan's code name for him (Charlie Trout) made me burst out laughing.
I'm not sure what to make of this possible Jenny/Blair friendship. Or Jenny in general. Rufus looked like he wanted to get violent on her ass last night. lol
And I didn't even notice that Nate wasn't in this episode until it was over, which goes to show you how important he is to me.
No new episode next week. Why do you hate me, CW?
devilounette - October 6, 2008 03:05 PM (GMT)
I just feel like you Paula ! I found the episode really sad for B and C. And probably more for B ! Her mother doesn't care about her, that was painful. And Serena is a b..ch (I never liked her, especially in books !).
I can't wait for next episode !

I'm so annoyed that there isn't one tonight! Have to wait until next Monday. <_<
Paula - October 6, 2008 04:44 PM (GMT)
OH, but the actual LAST thing I watched was a movie called "Flourish" with Leighton Meester. Totally bizarre indie thing that didn't even make sense in the end, but was sort of interesting anyway? I don't know. lol
devilounette - October 6, 2008 04:48 PM (GMT)
I hope Chuck is gonna help Blair just like last time she wasn't the queen anymore, and then we'll have Blass !
Paula - October 6, 2008 04:49 PM (GMT)
Sounds good to me. I love their scenes together so much.
devilounette - October 6, 2008 04:54 PM (GMT)
yeah ! Scene in the limo is kinda mythical !
Paula - October 6, 2008 05:11 PM (GMT)
Hah, yeah, but I like their random snipes at each other, too. They're amusing whether they're getting it on or hating on each other. Awesome chemistry.
devilounette - October 6, 2008 05:20 PM (GMT)
I'm not sure producers had predicted this ! I think they're the favourite people in the show ! and Ed was Vilain of the year at the TCA !!!
Paula - October 6, 2008 05:42 PM (GMT)
That's awesome! I know some people can't get past the fact that he tried to rape Jenny in the pilot, and I really wish he hadn't because while people make a valid point with that, I think his overall awesomeness since then overshadows that little indiscretion. I just can't hate him. lol
I mean, if he was a real person? Sure, I'd be horrified. But I love me some deliciously evil characters like Chuck Bass, especially when they're as witty and amusing as he is.
Paula - October 8, 2008 01:47 AM (GMT)
The cast did a press conference this weekend - you can see pics from the event here:
http://community.livejournal.com/ohnotheydidnt/28542486.htmlNot the most flattering shots ever, but some of them are nice. I'm not really sure what to make of what Leighton's wearing. Reminds me of
those scrub things nurses wear. lol
devilounette - October 8, 2008 04:13 PM (GMT)
but her face is really beautiful ! nice make up !!
And Ed is ... woooooooooooow
Paula - October 12, 2008 07:33 PM (GMT)
New episode tomorrooowwww! I've been suffering withdrawal. :hyper:
devilounette - October 12, 2008 09:43 PM (GMT)
and with Serena becoming more nasty et wanting to be a queen too, it's gonna be awesome ! sneak peeks are fine !
I'll watch it on tuesday (you're lucky Paula !)
Paula - October 13, 2008 05:21 PM (GMT)
Yeah, that last scene between Serena and Blair in the last episode was pretty brutal. From what I've heard about tonight's episode so far, they're still going to be at each other's throats this week. Meow!
Sorry you don't get to watch it until tomorrow, but at least there's the internet - otherwise you'd be waiting until god knows when for the current season in France, right?
devilounette - October 13, 2008 07:11 PM (GMT)
absolutely ! they're only programming season 2 of Supernatural ! quicker for GG since we're having season 1 everyday saturday since septembre, but anyway !
Paula - October 14, 2008 06:35 PM (GMT)
Last night was freaking AWESOME. I don't even know where to start, and don't have time to right now, but will definitely be back with comments after re-watching (because it was that good! lol).
devilounette - October 14, 2008 07:22 PM (GMT)
here are my comments in French ... I'll translate it when I've time (probably tomorrow)
La phrase de Blair "Of all the things, Nate, my mum, girls at school ..." rend bien compte de l'état d'esprit de Blair, c'est assez dur.
Pauvre idiot !
Paula - October 14, 2008 08:35 PM (GMT)
Wow, you had lots to say! Too bad I can only understand bits and pieces of it. :ermm: lol
I look forward to reading the translated version!
devilounette - October 14, 2008 09:37 PM (GMT)
I finally took time, hope you'll understand all my translation
Blair is definitely provocating Serena, whereas she’s not the strongest one right now. So, in a way, she deserves what’s happening to her, even if Serena is queen of bitch. Trample on her best friend’s child dream, or at least trying to do so, is very very mean.
I’m sad for Blair getting scared during her meeting with dean, but it’s really faithfull to the book. I laugh quite much in fact.
Her sentend “Of all the things, Nate, my mum, girls at school ..." shows well how she feels, and it’s kinda hard for her.
But she got on my nerves when arriving at dean’s house, she’s provocating Serena again, et it doesn’t seem to be a good plan. I’m gonna explain her how to do lol ! I mean, she’s clever, story with the secretary made me laugh, but she’s too impulsive ! I’m glad they didn’t turn her into a desperate character, it would have been ridiculous.
Even if sometimes they make her look like a stupid girl ! In fact, I think I don’t like her that much in this episode ... It depends on her scenes, but for instance she goes too far with Serena’s question ... That’s mean and nasty (and bad thought, Serena is stupid because if I had been her, I would have turn it to me)
I would have liked to have a friend like Serena and Blair are, I think that the end is rather beautiful, when the two girls meet the dean to explain him how great the other one is. And when finally Serena says they’ll find a way together.
As usual, Nate is a moron ! I think he is unniteresting. But the mess around his father musn’t be an easy thing to deal with...
Contrary to you (my friends dislike Jenny), I like Jenny and what she does right now. She fights for what she loves, shes wants to become someone, it’s a good thing even if the way she has chosen is not reasonnable. Rufus had a hard choice to make, because Jenny is clearly good at what she does. Even if he’s right, and even if school must be a priority, finally, he made the good choice for her.
Does Lily act like Eleanor when she says that Rufus is lucky having a talented daughter ? (what about Serena ?). Or am I mistaking ?
And finally, Chuck acted like a pro, he’s on top !! Despising Dan, it’s true, but at least he protects Nate ! Who isn’t really thanksfull ...
So, finally, I liked this episode, and how girls are “double face”. But N upset me in the end ... If he had been attached nacked like Dan, what would have he said to Chuck ??? Moron !

Paula - October 23, 2008 05:26 PM (GMT)
There was plenty of Chuck/Blair. :yummy:
